The TAZ 625 Thursday Night Net on October 29, 2026 was a lively one, with NCO Andrew (WRNR761) welcoming seven check-ins and hearing from every station. The trivia question asked how Google Maps detects a traffic jam, and the guesses split between cell phones and satellites. Our discussion topic, the first radio each of us learned to program, brought out some great memories: Carlos (WSMX361) started on a Bearcat 100XLT using the faceplate, Gene (WRPP969) recalled plugging a crystal into a Motorola, and Gary (WRUB659) admitted he once gave up on faceplate programming with his Baofeng UV-9G before turning to CHIRP and manufacturer software. Todd (WSAB543) and Mike (WSFN474) agreed that CHIRP is still a favorite, though Todd made a good case that knowing your radio's faceplate is worth the effort. Thanks to George (WRKX782) and everyone else who joined in, and we hope to hear you on the air next Thursday!
